Wishing Star is a Flicka which our friends Elizabeth and Stefan picked up in Seattle. Now they have her home, and the work is just getting started. (This is an excellent way to test a relationship.)

BayAreaSailingSchool > Unfortunately we did find some blisters that required additional sanding, cleaning with Acetone and then some fiberglass putty. Luckily it appears that the blisters are not in the hull but between the gelcoat and the hull.

BayAreaSailingSchool > Finally we were done with most of the keel and only had the rudder to chip away on! Making progress.

BayAreaSailingSchool > Keel was done, bottom paint removed blisters repaired. Our plan is to block it at the shipyard and finish the small areas around the trailer wheels and paint it new and launch, all in one long weekend!

BayAreaSailingSchool > Next we began to look more closely at the top of the boat. Oh-oh! So we start "picking", what we now recognize to be a very bad boating habit. This is a picture of the port side wave blocker, some small cracks in the fiberglass have allowed some water seepage.

BayAreaSailingSchool > An outside view of the port side. The wood is wet, but does not appear to be rotted or damaged. So we remove the outer fiberglass layer, and will let it dry.

BayAreaSailingSchool > The starboard side presents more of a concern. The leak has allowed the wood on the wave blocker and the cockpit coaming to become rotten. The pieces of wood above were removed using only fingers; thus very soft, too soft, we decide.

BayAreaSailingSchool > When the wood of the wave blocker was pressed on water acutally seeped out. This was not going to dry out. We decide to replace the entire area. We can rebuild it!!!

BayAreaSailingSchool > But before we rebuild it, we must remove it!!!! Arrrrrggghhhh!
